PENNFIELD RECEIVES SFSF CERTIFICATION

Pennfield Receives Safe Feed Safe Food Certification

Pennfield Animal Feed Technologies received Safe Feed/Safe Food certification in January 2005. Safe Feed/Safe Food is a voluntary feed industry initiative designed to establish and promote continuous improvement toward assuring a safer food supply. Independent third-party inspectors are used to verify and certify integrity of the program.

Successful applicants must be capable of identifying the source of all ingredients incorporated into the food chain, must be able to accurately identify the destination of all product shipments, and assure that procedures are in-place for identification and control of potential Food Safety hazards. The applicants must also demonstrate compliance with all applicable FDA regulations.

We are very proud to be one of the first feed manufacturers in the United States to be certified Safe Feed/Safe Food.

Pennfield Named One of the Best Places to Work in PA!

Pennfield Corporation was recently named as one of the Best Places to Work in PA. Pennfield will be recognized and honored at the Best Places to Work in PA evening awards ceremony on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at the Hershey Lodge & Convention Center, during which the rankings will be revealed.

Pennfield is a diversified consumer foods and agricultural products company serving customers throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. Headquartered in Lancaster PA, Pennfield employs nearly 300 associates in seven PA locations. The company, founded in 1919 by David and Ernest Horn, continues as a fourth-generation, family-owned business.

The Best Places to Work in PA program was designed to identify, recognize, and honor the best places of employment in Pennsylvania, benefiting the state's economy, its workforce and businesses. The BPTW in PA program is made up of 100 companies split into two groups: 50 medium-sized companies and 50 large-sized companies. Pennfield has been named one of the Best Places to Work in PA in the large category. The award program, created in 2000, is the first of its kind offered by a state in the country. It is a public/private partnership of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, Team Pennsylvania Foundation, Kuntz Lesher LLP, Central Penn Business Journal, the Great Place to Work® Institute, and the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry.

Approximately 184 companies were entered into the two-part process of determining the 100 Best Places to Work in PA. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company's workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. These assessments made up 25% of each company's score. The second part consisted of an employee survey, through which the Great Place to Work® Institute evaluated the results and comments. More than 18,000 PA employees completed the survey which was worth 75% of the total score. The Great Place to Work® Institute combined the scored, determined the top companies and did the final ranking. The winners were chosen using the same formula as the Fortune "100 Best Companies to Work for in America."

PENNFIELD ATTAINS MILL CERTIFICATION

In 2003, as part of our ongoing commitment to providing safe and nutritious products, Pennfield Corporation is pleased to announce that we have attained certification at all feed plants, from the Facilities Certification Institute.

The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) created the Facility Certification Institute (FCI) to enhance consumer confidence in the feed and food supply chain. FCI incorporates the FDA’s inspection program for compliance with “Title 21, CFR § 589.2000, Substances Prohibited in Ruminant Feed.” The certification process involves on-site inspection by a professional FCI Certified Agent, to audit facilities for compliance to this FDA policy. Focus of the inspection is on policies and procedures associated with Restricted Use Ruminant Protein (RUPP).

Specific requirements include:

  • Written procedures in place to prevent accidental contamination of ingredients and products with RUPP
  • Written procedures to assure bulk shipments of all ingredients are inspected and free of RUPP
  • Written agreements from suppliers that ingredients are free of RUPP
  • Written agreements with transportation carriers that containers are free of RUPP residue
  • Quality assurance training program that provides direction and education regarding RUPP.
